BOG MATS & CRANE MATS
MINIMISE GROUND DAMAGE; INCREASE CRANE & PLANT STABILITY
As a construction manager or civil engineer, it’s important to you to keep your project on time and to budget. Ensuring that the machinery and plant required can get to where it needs to regardless of terrain conditions and without causing damage to the ground is crucial to avoid unnecessary and often costly delays. Birkett’s bog mats make this easy.
Types of Bog and Crane Mats
Our durable, hardwood oak bog mats (also known as crane mats) offer an ideal temporary access solution. They provide a platform across which cranes and plant can travel when traversing a site as well as supplying a stable base for other machinery, such as drilling equipment.
Birkett’s focus is on providing timber mats that are not only durable and of the best quality but also at a price that offers excellent value for money. We use either tough hardwood oak or tropical hardwood timber species for our bog mats, making them very durable. The crane mats weigh between 300 kg and 1,200 kg depending on the size (you can find out more about choosing the right size for your application here). The hardwood timber we use is environmentally friendly too and only from sustainable sources.

Bog Mat applications
Bog mats can be used in a wide variety of applications. This can include pipeline contracts, construction and civil engineering projects, emergency temporary access routes, dredging sites, energy plants and bridging work and much more. Our bog mats have even been used in the prestigious London Olympics stadium and equestrian venue. You can see a list of some of the many applications below.
Our bog mats and crane mats are easy to stack, transport and offload. They are also laid very quickly and easily, using existing lifting machinery on site to lift and place the mats into position and without the necessity to join the mats together.
Access and stability
Crane or bog mats are used to spread heavy loads and provide traction to provide stable and reliable access for cranes and other heavy plant across boggy ground and other tricky landscape conditions.
Birkett’s bog mats allow you to lay a temporary roadway or base to provide effortless traction for construction and engineering machinery to cross waterlogged, muddy and slippery ground as well as difficult terrain such as sand and silt. This enables access regardless of weather and ground conditions and also provides a solid base for the machinery to work from.
In addition to providing a temporary access solution and base for cranes and other plant machinery, our bog and crane mats help avoid ground churn, disintegration and contamination as well as safeguarding expensive turf and paving. They also protect below ground utility services. This allows you to meet environmental protection targets as well as removing the worry of costly environmental reinstatement or compensation claims.
We understand that reliable and swift delivery is vital and our 40 years of experience in the industry allows us to negotiate competitive haulage rates with the most reliable hauliers, so you can rest assured that your crane and bog mats will be where you need them when you need them.
There are so many benefits to using bog mats and crane mats and by choosing Birkett’s hardwood bog mats for your project you know you are getting the best quality, reliable service and competitive pricing too.
